Honoring Oct. 1

The Vegas Golden Knights honored Las Vegas first responders and the victims of the October 1 shooting, on the fifth anniversary of the tragedy.

The day began at City National Arena with the unveiling of a custom Golden Knights police cruiser to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which features the team’s logo and “Vegas Born” on the driver’s side.

Next, the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation, Downton Summerlin and Vitalant, the largest blood provider in Nevada, hosted the 1 October memorial blood drive outside of City National Arena. Donors had the opportunity to meet with players and take photos while they waited to give blood.

“It’s so important to bring the community back together” said Vitalant PR representative Brittany Estrella “[and] to remember what Vegas Strong means.”

Following the blood drive, players visited with first responders throughout town. Members of the Golden Knights met with Las Vegas police officers and fire fighters for a morning of remembrance and gratitude.

The Golden Knights have always made it a priority to give back to the Vegas community because like hockey, community is a contact sport.
