Two VGK Heroes Announced
Throughout the month of November, also known as Hockey Fights Cancer Month, fans were able to submit stories of their hero that has battled against cancer. The Vegas Golden Knights announced two VGK Heroes presented by OptumCare today, December 23. Below is the story on the two heroes, Linda and Susan.
Linda Findlay is a two-time cancer survivor and Nevada resident since 1965. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in the late 1990’s shortly after the passing of her mother who was also diagnosed with cancer. Linda was able to beat the original diagnosis, and beat it once again in 2015. Linda proudly wears her purple Hockey Fights Cancer jersey during each Golden Knights game.
Just months after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Susan Cleary learned that she had leukemia as well. Because her siblings didn’t match the same bone marrow, she ultimately had to fight on her own. Susan spent six months in the hospital using her own stem cells to be cured and in remission. Although she was once shy around others, today she is proud to tell her story in front of crowds with as many as thousands of people listening.
