Knight Life Episode 21 Recap
On this week’s episode of Knight Life, Golden Knights Rinkside Reporter Stormy Buonantony give fans a behind the scenes pass to the 2nd Annual “Knight to Remember” Gala in Wynn Las Vegas at XS Nightclub.
This year’s event was a huge success, featuring both a live and silent auction that saw 100% of the proceeds put directly toward the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation.
We start the evening with VGK Insider Gary Lawless catching up with a number of the players on the excitement of the KNIGHT and importance of giving back to the local community.
“Without the community there would be no team,” said Nate Schmidt. “The fantastic part about this whole thing is you get everyone together, and it’s all for a good cause.”
While the Golden Knights were doing their part for the VGK Foundation, behind the scenes an acquisition was in the works to get a new player in black and gold ahead of the 2020 Trade Deadline.
Vegas acquired veteran defenseman Alec Martinez from the LA Kings in exchange for two draft picks. In his debut with the VGK Martinez delivered a goal, assist and a win against the Tampa Bay Lightning—Putting an end to TB’s NHL-best 11-game win streak.
“It’s pretty incredible to be able to play with a hockey club of this caliber,” exclaimed Martinez. “I kept on saying on the bench, ‘this is a fun group to play with’.”
As Buonantony welcomes us back to XS Nightclub, we take a closer look at some of the items up for auction at the Knight to Remember Gala and hear from a few of the bidders on why they wanted to show up and show out for the team’s charity!
After perusing the items, it was time for the players to get to work... and no, I don’t mean on the ice! One of the coolest and most unique parts about the Gala is the one-on-one interaction for guests with the players while they serve up appetizers and cocktails.
**cough** Ryan Reaves’ Seven-Five Brewing was a big hit**cough**
“We are serving Seven-Five Brewing and Seven-Five Brewing only behind this bar!” joked Reaves. “[The guests] are being lovely. Might have something to do with it being free though, but it’s alright.”
Marc-Andre Fleury was also taking part in the customer service portion of the evening and said, “There are so many nice people. It’s fun to get to meet the fans, right? Talk a little bit and spend some time with them.”
Finally, we rounded out the show with a red-carpet twist. With it being the Hollywood Award Show season, Golden Knights players revealed which famous actors would best play them in a feature film.
Spoiler Alert: Nick Holden thinks Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would most accurately represent him...
The segment is filled with fun as Reilly Smith admits to looking like Ferris Bueller and everyone thinks Marc-Andre Fleury is a dead ringer for Sasha Baron Cohen’s portrayal of Jean Girard, the Perrier car driver in Talladega Nights.
That’s a wrap on this special Gala edition of Knight Life, but make sure to tune in to AT&T SportsNet every week for the latest on what your favorite Golden Knights are up to!
