KNIGHT LIFE EPISODE 18 RECAP: Whitefish Mountain
When there’s no Golden Knights hockey for more than a week, what’s a player (or broadcaster) to do?!
After an emotional week for the VGK undergoing a coaching change and implementing a number of new systems on the ice, the 2020 All-Star Break and Bye Week came at the right time for everyone.
Episode 18 of Knight Life starts by catching up with Rinkside Reporter Stormy Buonantony who spent her off-time at one of Golden Knights owner Bill Foley’s premier vacation destinations, Whitefish Mountain Resort.
Throughout the episode, there are multiple check-ins with Stormy, who gives viewers an up close look at the small mountain town in Montana that’s flooded with a love of hockey and the Golden Knights.
The Vegas Born team has an undeniable imprint on Whitefish. You see it in the skiers donning Knights apparel on the 100+ runs daily, youth hockey players repping their own VGK sweaters during practice at the local rink, and the collectables framed as decoration in the restaurants downtown.
It’s a Golden Knights family atmosphere through and through.
Bill Foley carries that family mentality through all of his ventures, which includes his life as a vintner in Sonoma’s Wine Country, where Knight Life takes us next.
Foley discusses everything from the future of his wineries to the distribution of leadership in the Knights organization.
“Hockey’s a different culture than my business side,” said Foley. “I need to have people trust me, and know that I trust them… and I knew I could get that with George [McPhee]. [He] had the foresight to bring in Kelly McCrimmon who’s the same kind of guy. He’s a built-in leader, but he does it quietly.”
Next on Knight Life, what’s an episode about the All-Star Break, without checking in on our resident All-Star in the Gateway City!
2020 was the first-career All-Star Game appearance for Golden Knights points-leader Max Pacioretty who took time to sit down with St. Louis local and VGK Analyst Mike McKenna to share his favorite parts of the weekend.
“Everyone knows by now this is all about the family experience for me. It’s obviously been great. Probably got frustrated to the point where we thought this might never actually happen but couldn’t be more thankful that it finally did.”
AT&T SportsNet continued the family affair later in the episode by catching up with 3rd line center Cody Eakin and his father Grant to discuss his all-hockey all-the-time household growing up in Winnipeg.
“Hockey was just kind of a way of life for us,” Eakin shared.
His father echoed the same sentiment.
“It’s kind of a way of life all the time back home in Canada,” said Grant. "Cody’s got two older sisters and they played just as many games as he did and they played on two different teams.”
There’s one final stop in Episode 18 of this Knight Life train and it’s all about what players spent the Bye Week where, and with who.
